When Mine Sweeper just won't cut it...
by Michelle Stokes <[email protected]>
I've been taking a look at a few of the games that come bundled
with KDE and have had a bit of fun with them.
I have to say, first of all, that I'm one for strategic and logic
games, so these are the games that I have concentrated on.
KBlackBox is a logic problem that gives you a grid of 8 X 8,
10 X 10 or 12 X 12 squares and you choose to have between 4 and 8
balls hidden in the grid. By clicking on the green squares around
the grid you fire a laser in a straight line. It continues in the
straight line until it hits something, so you find out if you have
hit a ball or not by the way the laser exits.
Sokoban is a strategy game where you are a warehouse keeper
and have to put crystals into the holes in the shortest possible
number of moves. The levels start off fairly easy and then
progressively get harder.
Shisen-Sho is fairly similar to Mahjong, except that to
match tiles, they must be exactly the same and have to be able to be
connected by at most three connecting lines. The object is, of
course, to remove all tiles.
These are the games I play most of all, but KDE also offers your
usual assortment of card games, Smiletris (smiley faced
tetris) and Asteroids as well as a few others.
If you're interested in trying these out for yourself, you'll need
to install the KDE window manager and the kdegames port. Check out
the following pages for more information:
Have fun.
